The Type 50.2 Ti, rated for 50,000 rpm, is a fixed angle rotor designed to centrifuge up to twelve tubes at a 24-degree angle to the axis of rotation. Used in Beckman Coulter class H, R, and S preparative ultracentrifuges, the rotor develops centrifugal forces sufficient for the differential separation of particles, and for equilibrium sedimentation of particles such as DNA and viruses. Up to 468 mL of gradient and sample volume can be centrifuged per run. The aluminum lid and handle are anodized for corrosion resistance. For overspeed protection, a photoelectrical detector in the ultracentrifuge monitors the overspeed disk on the rotor bottom and shuts down the run if speeds exceeding 50,000 rpm are detected.
